Manage or remove members

Change a member's role, approve people who join, and remove or ban someone.

Updated July 9, 2026

Owners and admins manage who’s in a group from the Members screen.

Find the Members screen

  • On a computer, choose Organization in the left sidebar, then the Members tab across the top.
  • On your phone, tap Manage in the bottom bar, then the Members tab.

Each person is listed with their role. Open the controls at the end of a member’s row to act on them.

Change someone’s role

From a member’s row controls, pick a new role. A few rules keep things safe:

  • You can set someone to admin, member, or viewer. See roles explained.
  • To hand the group to someone else, use transfer ownership rather than a role change. There’s only ever one owner.
  • Making someone an admin requires them to be 18 or older.

Approve people who join

By default, people who join through a shareable link or your group password land in a waiting room and need approval. Choose Waiting Room at the top of the Members screen to review and approve them. People you invite directly by email skip the waiting room and join right away. See invite your members.

Remove or ban someone

From a member’s row controls you can:

  • Remove them. They lose access, and the photos they added stay in the group. They can be re-invited later.
  • Ban them. Like removing, but they can’t rejoin. To review or reverse this later, use View Banned Members at the top of the Members screen; unbanning lets them be invited back in.

Removing or banning someone also clears their Photos of Me matches, so they stop appearing in that view. Their uploaded photos remain in the group.

You can’t remove the owner. To replace the owner, transfer the group first.
