Your biometric privacy and consent

Photos of Me works with biometric data, so it’s handled with extra care. It’s opt-in, you can withdraw at any time, and your data is never used to train or improve any machine learning model.

Consent

Before Photos of Me starts matching, you’re asked to review what it does and give explicit consent. Your consent can be withdrawn. If the terms are ever updated, you’ll be asked to review and consent again before matching continues.

Turning it off

Your controls are in Settings → Find me in photos (open Settings from the menu next to your name at the bottom-left on a computer, or More on your phone, then choose Find me in photos). There you have two options:

• Switch it off. Matching stops for new photos. Your reference photos and existing matches are left in place, so you can turn it back on later without redoing setup.
• Delete all your face data. This permanently removes your reference photos, everything built from them, and all of your matches across every group, and it withdraws your consent. This option is available even where the feature itself isn’t offered.

Turning the feature back on simply resumes matching; there’s no waiting period.

Where it’s available

Because of biometric privacy laws, Photos of Me is not available if your residency or your location is in Illinois, Texas, or Washington. In those places the feature stays off, and you can still use everything else in Fika normally. A group owner can also choose to turn the feature off for their whole group.

How this differs from normal photo privacy

Every photo in Fika is already private to your group. Consent here is specifically about the biometric matching that powers Photos of Me, which is separate from, and on top of, Fika’s Privacy Policy. See how Fika keeps your photos private.
