Understanding your storage

What counts toward storage, and what happens on a free or paid plan when you're near the limit.

Updated July 9, 2026

Each group has a storage allowance: 10 GB on Free and 250 GB on Standard. Here’s exactly what fills it and what happens as you get close.

What counts

Storage is the total size of the original photos and videos in your group, kept at full quality. A gigabyte here is 1,000 megabytes.

Items in your group’s trash still count until they’re permanently removed, because they can still be restored. Emptying the trash, or letting its 30-day window lapse, frees that space. See delete photos and restore from trash.

On a free group

  • You’ll get a heads-up as you approach the 10 GB limit.
  • Once the group reaches 10 GB, new uploads are paused until you free up space or upgrade. Everything already there stays viewable and downloadable.
  • If the group stays over the limit for 30 days after a plan downgrade to free, it’s suspended: it becomes download-only until you free up space or upgrade. Your photos are never deleted just for going over. An organization has another 30 days in suspension before deletion.

On the Standard plan

  • You’re not blocked at 250 GB. Extra storage is simply billed at $0.025 per GB per month.
  • That overage is based on your average usage over the trailing 30 days, so a brief spike costs little and a short cleanup lowers it quickly.

Freeing up space

The fastest ways to reduce usage are to empty the trash and to remove large collections or videos you no longer need to keep in Fika. Remember you can always download anything first, since your files are never locked in.
