Tags and search

Label collections with tags and find them fast by name, year, or tag.

Updated July 9, 2026

As a group builds up seasons of collections, tags and search keep everything findable.

How tags work

Tags label whole collections, not individual photos. Every collection can carry a few kinds of tag:

  • Year, season, and month tags are created automatically as you make collections, so a season sorts itself out over time. Each collection has one year, one season, and one month.
  • Custom tags are your own labels, like “Tournaments” or “Fundraisers,” and you can give them a color to make them easy to spot.

To add or create a tag, open a collection and use the tag control in its header.

On your group’s home (its collection dashboard), use the search box at the top, where the placeholder reads “Search collections, tags, years…”. Start typing and matching collections appear, and you can click a tag chip to filter down to everything carrying it. The left sidebar also has its own “Search collections…” box for quickly filtering the sidebar list.

Search looks across your collections and their tags. It doesn’t search the contents of individual photos or file names, so name your collections in a way your group will recognize later.

A tip for teams

Tagging by year and a custom label like your team or event name makes it easy to pull up, say, every “Homecoming” collection across seasons in one step.
